The residents of Chennai city and suburban areas are experiencing the benefits of installation of Rain Water Harvesting structures in their buildings by way of improvement in ground water level and quality. CMWSS Board is monitoring the water level and water quality from a network of observation wells in Chennai city comprising of sandy, clay and hard rock formations. Considerable improvement in water level and water quality is observed due to the implementation of RWH structures.
In order to derive the benefits of the scheme continuously the residents are requested to maintain the RWH structures installed in their buildings properly. Keeping in view of the current monsoon season, the CMWSS Board has conducted a half-a-day seminar on the maintenance of Rain Water Harvesting structures in the forenoon of 31-10-2007 in which the builders, NGO’s, plumbers and the public were participated. Thiru M. Soundararajan. Hydrogeologist, highlighted the methods and maintenance of RWH structures. Thiru Sekar Ragavan, Director, Akash Ganga Trust, Madavelipakkam, Chennai and Thiru. Jaya kumar, Managing Director, Raj Paris Civil Construction Ltd., share their experience in Rain Water Harvesting and emphasized the need for maintaining the Rain Water Harvesting structures. The importance of proper maintenance of Rain Water Harvesting structures and the best ways of keeping the Rain Water Harvesting structures clean for effective recharge of rain water were discussed.
