HON’BLE CHIEF MINISTER OF TAMIL NADU INSPECTED

THE DESALINATION PLANT AT NEMMELI

                The Chennai Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board has proposed to set up a 100 MLD Sea Water Reverse Osmosis Plant at Minjur on Design built own operate and transfer basis (DBOOT) in order to bridge and gap between demand and supply of water and also to augment water supply to Chennai City and the works are under progress.

            The Government also proposed to have another 100 MLD desalination plant  on Reverse Osmosis method with financial assistance from the Government of India at Nemmeli Village near Mahabalipuram.

            The land for setting up the Desalination Plant has been selected at Nemmeli Village, Thirukazhukundram Taluk, Kancheepuram District which belongs to Alavandar Trust and maintained by HR & CE Department. The Government (vide G.O.Ms.No.238 of 8.6.2007 issued by Tamil Development and HR & CE Department). The above land was handed over by Alawandar Trust to CMWSS Board on 29.08.2007.

             For preparation of Detailed Project Report (DPR) for setting up a  100 MLD Desalination Plant, M/s Mecon Limited (a Government of India Enterprise) in technical association with M/s ADECO Technologies SA (ADECO), Switzerland have been selected as a Consultant and the Firm have commenced the work and the entire work have to be completed within 5 months i.e. before 31.12.2007. The DPR will be submitted to Government of India for financial assistance and the work will be commenced immediately after getting the financial assistance.

            Hon’ble Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu inspected the Desalination Plant site today ( 3.9.2007) and also review the ongoing works i.e. land survey, soil test and bethymetive survey at Nemmmeli.

Hon’ble Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu also advised the officials of Chennai Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board to speed up the process of Project implementation.
