          The CMWSSB Board officials and the revenue authorities of Ambattur Taluk, Thiruvallur District conducted a check against the illegal extraction and transportation of groundwater in Ambattur, Ayapakkam, Ayanambakkam and Athipattu Village on 28.09.2007, as these villages are covered under the scheduled villages of Chennai Metropolitan Area Ground water (Regulation) Act, 27 of 1987.  During the check in these villages, it was found that a total number of 13 bore wells were constructed around the lake bund by private persons and they were used for extraction of ground water for commercial purposes.

            In a swift operation the authorities removed the bore well structures and dismantled the diesel pump sets and filling point pipelines in all the thirteen bore well sites.  Also one water tanker bearing Regn.No.TN09 AH 9432 was seized while filling up ground water in one of the bore well.  The authorities proposed to take similar action wherever groundwater is being extracted and transported illegally.
