PRESS RELEASE BY METRO WATER
As per the orders of the Hon'ble Chief Minister, daily water supply through pipeline is being done by Metro Water Board from 1st November 2005. About 430 million litres of water is being supplied through the pipeline everyday and in addition about 30 million litres through tanker lorries to the unserved streets. Earlier, an alternate day supply of around 630 million litres was supplied through the pipe line on supply days. The defective and unserved streets were being given about 30 million litres of tanker lorry supply daily.
On introduction of daily supply of piped water, many streets which were not receiving piped supply of water started to receive water supply through the pipelines now. In some of these streets, there is a possibility of residual water already available getting mixed with fresh water and flowing through the pipe line, appearing yellowish in some cases. Further, in these areas some of the sumps or the underground storage facilities in the building are also likely to have some residual water, which may also contain redworms. The owners of such buildings are requested to clean up the storage sumps and overhead tanks before storing water and using it. Metro Water is also arranging to flush and clean the pipe line wherever necessary. The residents who have problems of these kinds are requested to immediately inform either to the local Depot Engineer or Area Engineer or to the Complaint Cell in the Metro Water Head Office, which is working 24 hours. The Telephone Nos. are 2841 5312 or 2841 8436.
In view of the incessant rains, Metro Water has increased the level of chlorination optimally to ensure the purity of water. Chlorine tablets are also being distributed free of cost to the needy residents. However, as a measure of abundant precaution, public are requested to boil and drink water till the over all situation is improved.
