NOTICE TO THE PUBLIC

            Notice is given to the members of the public that it shall not be lawful for the owner of any building to occupy it or cause or permit it to be occupied until he has obtained a certificate from the authorized authority that the said building is provided with such means of sewerage as appear to the authorized authority to be sufficient.

              This public notice has become necessary since it has been brought to the notice of the Chennai Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board that some of the buildings have not been provided with sufficient means of disposal of sewage by connecting them to the sewer system of the board and that the sewage from such buildings are let unauthorizedly either in open surface or into the water ways or connected to the storm water drains.

 

            Such action on the part of the owners / promoters / occupiers of such premises contravenes the provisions of Chennai Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board Act 1978 and the amended Tamil Nadu Public Health Act 1939.  On account of such contravention in the discharge of sewerage, the public health and hygiene is seriously jeopardized.  Besides, such action attract punishment and fine under the aforesaid enactments including imprisonment and fine.  The Tamil Nadu Public Health Act specifically prohibit such discharge of sewerage in open surface or into the water ways or connected to the storm water drains.

             Public is hereby informed that within 30 days from the date of this notice, immediate action should be taken by the promoters / owners / occupiers of premises for connecting their sewage disposal to the sewer system of Chennai Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board.  Any person in occupation of any premises including its owner/promoter who have not provided effectual sewage disposal to the sewer system of Chennai Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board will be prosecuted and action will be taken against them in accordance with the provisions of Chennai Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Act, 1978 and the Tamil Nadu Public Health Act on the expiry of the said period of 30 days.
