PLANNING AND DESIGNING WING
The Planning and Designing Wing headed by a Superintending Engineer is engaged in investigation, project formulation, detailed engineering and estimation for providing water supply and sewerage facilities to Chennai City. About 98% of the city is provided with water supply and sewerage systems and action is being taken to make it 100%. The Wing is also involved in formulating water supply and sewerage projects for the schemes developed by other Governmental organizations such as TNHB, TNSCB, PWD, etc.
Consultancy services are rendered to the Local Bodies in the state for which sponsorship comes from Government (Example: Sewerage schemes under execution in Madurai and Kumbakonam).
The P&D Wing provides Consultancy services for preparation of Detailed Project Reports (DPRs) for proposals of Water Supply and Sewerage projects to the Adjacent Urban Local Bodies.
The DPRs for providing Water Supply Scheme to Porur, Maduravoyal, Avadi, Ullagaram – Puzhudhivakkam and Nerkundram have been prepared for a total cost of Rs.182.91 crores and approval of JNNURM has been obtained. These schemes have been entrusted to CMWSSB for implementation as Deposit Works.
Similarly the DPRs for providing Under Ground Sewerage Scheme to Ullagaram – Puzhudhivakkam, Avadi and Ambattur have been prepared for a total cost of Rs.317.04 crores and approval of JNNURM has been obtained. These schemes have been entrusted to CMWSSB for implementation as Deposit Works.
The DPRs for providing comprehensive sewerage scheme to Kathivakkam, Maduravoyal and Porur have been completed for a cost of Rs.117.46 crores and submitted to JNNURM for approval.
Preparation of DPRs for providing Water Supply Schemes to Ambattur, Thiruvotriyur, Pallavaram, Alandur, Madhavaram, Tambaram, Thiruverkadu, Ramapuram, Kottivakkam and Pammal and Under Ground Sewerage Scheme to Tambaram are under progress.
Consequent to the rapid urbanisation of the Urban Local Bodies surrounding the Chennai City, the Government has proposed to provide basic infrastructures to the these Urban Local Bodies. One such infrastructure is providing Under Ground Drainage System. 45 Urban Local Bodies (ULBs) have been proposed for providing Under Ground Drainage System. Chennai Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board being the nodal agency divided the 45 ULBs into 7 groups and private Consulting Agencies have been entrusted for preparation of DPRs for the above schemes. The Consultancy works have been commenced in May – 2007.
