  Power generation from Gas Engines

The unique feature of these Sewage Treatment Plants is utilisation of biogas as fuel for power generation through gas engines for running the entire plant.  The approximate power generation through gas engine for each plant is given below.

1. Perungudi              - 12,000   units /  day

2.Koyambedu             - 7,500   units /day

3.Nesapakkam           - 6,000   units / day

4. kodungaiyur           - 12,500  units / day

By this, not only around a sum of Rs.4 crores / year payable to TNEB towards power charges has been saved by CMWSS Board but also about 400 MWH of power which is not drawn from the grid is a national saving.

As the Methane content (one of the Green House Gases responsible for further global warming ) of the bio - gas has been captured and used for power generation of releasing into the atmosphere which helps in global warming cause.
