has formulated jointly by government of
Tamil Nadu and Ministry of Environment and Forest to prevent pollution of the
six waterways viz., Adyar, Cooum, Buckingham Canal, Otteri, Nullah, Captain
Cotton Canal and Mambalam drain in Chennai City.
The
pollution is mainly due to discharge of treated, partially treated and untreated
sewage in different outfalls along the waterways.
To prevent the discharge of noxious substances reaching the waterways it
has been proposed to increase the capacity of interceptors, pumping stations,
gravity mains and pumping mains, Sewage Treatment Plants.
Accordingly,
the sewerage system have been improved in the areas of Besant Nagar,

increased.

Board’s revenue has been increased as more treated sewage water is
being supplied to industries.
VI.
As the capacity of pumping stations has been increased, mixing of raw
sewage in the waterways have been reduced to a great extent.
